How Do You Submit A Planning Application?

Most people use an ‘agent’ like an architect or a draughtsman like DWG Plans Ltd to apply for planning permission on their behalf. If you take this approach, then your agent will likely be the recipient of all correspondence from the council relating to the application. DWG Plans Ltd will always pass on any information received from the council.

Planning applications can be made in two ways: either online through the National Planning Portal or by submitting paper copies of all documents to the council. You can gain a paper application form at the Planning Department office or download one from your local council’s website.

DWG Plans uses the online approach as it’s quicker and easier to register and the application form can be sent to the client prior to submitting to ensure all the details are as accurate as possible and keeps the client in the loop.

Most planning applications for small extension works to residential properties (i.e. single/double storey extensions) are submitted as a householder planning application.
